  • If you have read my account of the wedding-hall collapse in Jerusalem, you already know "what is Pal-Kal." In the early 1980's someone (who is now in prison) developed a flooring method much lighter in weight than the traditional heavy flooring that separated stories in tall buildings. Soon engineers deemed it unsafe, and by 1996 it was no longer legal.
  • Late one evening in May, 2001, my son Joel heard a loud noise from his apartment in the Talpiot area of Jerusalem. It sounded like a large truck of gravel overturning. Curious to see what had happened, Joel and his friend Don ran down to Hebron road, from where they saw a cloud of dust, and heard screaming voices. When they arrived at the Versailles wedding hall, they were shocked at what they saw. The whole side of the building was gone. Looking up they saw a surreal scene. Tables were sitting in the corner of the room with candles …
  • This has been a sad week in Israel. As I write this six coffins are en route from Romania with the remains of some of the very best, young, talented brave men. We still don't know why their helicopter crashed on Monday, but today in our grief, the cause is secondary.
  • In our early years in Jerusalem we lived in a neighborhood enclosed within a low stone wall, iron fence and gates, with a courtyard in the middle. • I still smile when I remember our friend, Jim, who out of a sincere heart and a strong revulsion for violence, had taken a stand as one who would not take up arms. To be fair, he did not apply this to others, it was simply his own personal conviction. But one day, close to his workplace in Jerusalem, some loud shouts, even screams got his attention. He glanced over a stone wall and saw that a young man had a double-ended knife and was violently attacking innocent people waiting at a bus stop. Blood was everywhere, and in the …
  • The first time I ventured the hike in the beautiful Yehudiya valley northwest of the Kinneret, I was warned to stretch well first. It wasn't just a nature walk. I enjoyed the rigor of the climbs, inspired on by the fresh vistas at every turn. As we criss-crossed creeks, I carefully rolled up my pant legs, even removed my shoes and socks, so I wouldn't get wet.
  • Gift of the Spirit: Discerning of spirits Fruit of the Spirit: Patience, long-suffering "Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him..."  Psalms 37:7 Throughout the night the fire burned without ceasing as corporate prayer and worship continued.
  • Fruit of the Spirit: Gentleness Gift of the Spirit: Prophecy If one had entered the Prayer Tower in the late hours of Friday evening, they would have seen a room packed with Ethiopian believers passionately pouring out their hearts and souls unto God.
  • Gift of the Spirit: Working of MiraclesFruit of the Spirit: Joy As sunset fell upon the Upper Room, a beautiful artist's rendering of “Joy to the Lord” in color rested upon the easel, having been created throughout the day in the presence of the Lord.
  • Gift of the Spirit: Gift of HealingFruit of the Spirit: Love and Compassion Another precious day of corporate waiting on the Lord in Jerusalem. "Rejoice with Jerusalem and be glad with her all you who love her." Isaiah 66:10 Jerusalem today celebrated her 43rd anniversary since the Six Day War when this ancient capital was returned into Jewish hands.
