Discipleship is the Way of the Kingdom
While there are many out there with great talent, the Lord looks for character. Small group discipleship, as Yeshua Himself modeled, is how those with talent can add character and maturity, and thus bring honor to the Kingdom.
King of Kings Community Jerusalem is called to be a compelling, Messiah-centered, Spirit-empowered, disciple making community, that reveals the true face of Yeshua to Israel and to the nations. This lines up with what is commonly referred to as the “Great Commission” Yeshua gave, found in Matthew 28:19-20.
During the days of His public ministry on earth, Yeshua preached the gospel to multitudes of people, however, He spent most of His ministry time with just 12 men. These disciples of His received the full explanation of Yeshua’s teachings and the benefit of personal friendship with Him. He taught them the Scriptures, mentored them in ministry, & modeled before them the character of the Father. The Lord’s ordained method for preparing ministries was then and continues to be the investing of God’s Word and one’s personal life into that of another.
In the Body of Messiah today we have scores of talented and gifted people, but are limited when it comes to having seasoned men and women who model the nature and lifestyle of Yeshua. One of the greatest deficits in the Church worldwide is mature, godly character. Many believers still need to be taught how to grow in knowing the Lord intimately, how to pray effectively, and how to be able to apply God’s Word to their lives.
One of the best ways to become a true disciple of Yeshua and to disciple others is in a small group setting of Bible study and memory, prayer and accountability. This type of small discipleship group does three important things: (1) It makes true disciples. (2) It identifies potential spiritual leaders. And (3) it gives people the close relationships they need. It also provides them with a setting where they can share openly with others and ask any questions they may have.
If there is a shortcut to maturity in the Kingdom of God, it is when mature, godly men and women purposefully seek to impart God’s Word and ways to others who want to grow in the Lord. Although relating to people from a distance may seem easier and less demanding personally and emotionally, we must get alongside believers to help them grow into spiritual maturity. We must be willing to not only give them the gospel of God, but also impart our own lives to them (1Thessalonians 2:8). This is true disciple-making!
Future information will be given regarding how you can be a part of this exciting new season of making disciples. Watch this space!
