The JERUSALEM PRAISE EXPERIENCE

It started off as a simple idea. It grew into a conviction that it was God’s idea! The idea of gathering local worshippers to present an evening of dynamic praise evolved into a multi-faceted vision.
Pastor Wayne Hilsden remembers how, as a young man, traveling in Europe, God touched him and called him. It was outside of his usual surroundings, in a foreign land, that God got his attention. When people visit Jerusalem on a once-in-a-lifetime journey, they are ready to meet with God in a special way! We believe it is also important for them to connect with the thriving local body in Israel – “the living stones”.
The Jerusalem Praise Experience utilizes the rich gifts of local worshippers as they blend their voices, instruments and dance. The people are led in a vibrant and unforgettable worship experience as they sing not just in their own language, but in Hebrew as well. They are pulled beautifully into a corporate worship expression where even familiar songs take on a deeper meaning when sung “on location”.
In May of 2007, we were excited to welcome many tourists from the nations to our first Jerusalem Praise Experience. As people were ushered into the beautiful Jerusalem Pavilion, there was an atmosphere of expectation. From the first line of the first song, people were on their feet and joining the ascent as Chuck King sang “I will go up to Your holy mountain”, and people responded with vigor to Sheli Myers’ “Alo Na’ale!” (We will go up!). Many in the crowd joined the dancers as we sang “…and let the nations sing and praise Him, and Israel will say, ‘AMEN!’”, then they danced through “Roni Bat Tzion!” (Rejoice O Zion!). Throughout the evening, the hall rang with high praise. Songs by Jess Cantelon reminded us of salvation history and gave a clear historical basis for worshiping a covenant-keeping God! Songs like “Yet I will Rejoice!” and “Dig’lecha alai ahava!” (His banner over me is love!) ministered deeply to the needs of many people.
As the evening culminated with “O Come, O Come Immanuel”, hearts were full and hands were raised as we sang “Rejoice, rejoice, Immanuel has come to thee, O Israel!” As people left the Pavilion, they ascended seventeen floors, and flowed through the Pavilion Prayer Tower, praying fervently as they viewed the panoramic vista of Jerusalem. Many stayed into the night, not wanting to leave this awesome place of God’s presence.
Pastors, tour group leaders, guides, tourists, and Israelis alike thanked us over and over for providing this unique opportunity. Many said it was the highlight of their visit to Israel. We are encouraged and inspired to continue this event to release God’s people in worship and to “make Jerusalem a praise in all the earth”!
