Spiritual Sojourners

In the days of Abraham and the patriarchs, they pitched their tents and built their altars. They were nomadic like the Bedouin of today in the Middle East. They lived in tents and followed their flocks, digging wells as they needed them.  But what was permanent for them were the altars they built as memorials to God.  Even when they moved on, the altar remained behind as a testimony of God’s faithfulness.

Today we tend to build our tents (permanent homes) and pitch our altars.  What should be permanent in our lives – our faith, commitments to God, and our covenant relationships with others have become temporary.  We stay in committed relationships when it’s comfortable to do so, and we move on when the discomfort becomes too much for us.  But God is looking for women who will be faithful at all costs! He wants His people to be as committed as He is!  He wants us committed to our spouses, our families and friends, and our congregations!

Do not let your home, material possessions and lifestyle prevent you from following Jesus wherever He leads you. We are called to be spiritual sojourners, not spiritual squatters. We must fight the tendency to prefer security to availability.  Always be going forward with the Lord. We are pilgrims through this life, so our values should reflect our eternal Home. The Lord calls us to go from faith to more faith, from strength to more strength, and from glory to more glory!

God is not as interested in our perfecting the jobs or ministries we function in as He is in perfecting the character of His Son in us!  He will move us from an area of service that we do well into something new and challenging to get us dependent on Him again. He may move us from a congregation where we are at ease to help a new congregation where we have to start all over.  He wants us to abide in Him all the time, and not be so comfortable that we do not need Him as we once did.

2 Timothy 2:13 says, “If we are faithless, He remains faithful; for He cannot deny Himself.”  Truth, stability and faithfulness are built into God’s character.  He cannot help but be 100% true and faithful.  How reassuring to belong to a God like that!  And what a challenge for us to be the same!  That is our calling and destiny!

If you want to join the women who are meeting on Wednesday evenings to study the Sermon on the Mount, please come to the Pavilion Prayer Tower (14th floor, Clal building).  We would love to see you there.  We meet from 6:30-8:30 PM. We are in the process of becoming more like Jesus as we hear and apply His Word to our lives, and share our hearts and burdens with one another for prayer.  This is a place to grow spiritually and to develop committed relationships with your sisters in the Lord!
