Yeshua said in Matthew 16:18, "... I will build My Church (the Greek word is ekklesia [assembly]), and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it!" What was His strategy in laying the foundations of His Church? It was to make disciples. For most of Yeshua's public ministry for 3 and ½ years, He focused on teaching and training those who would become His disciples. He invested His Word and life into the 70 (referred to in Luke 10:1) and others who left all to follow Him (There were 120 in the Upper Room on the Day of Pentecost who were committed to Him.). He spent additional time with the 12 who were called to be apostles. Yeshua showed them how to have a relationship with the Father, taught them the ways of God's Kingdom, and exampled a life of holiness before them. He mentored them in ministry. Then He commanded His disciples in Matthew 28:19-20 to go and disciple others - all nations, all ethnic groups..."Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name (nature, character, Person) of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
What is Yeshua's role? He builds His Church! What is our role? We make disciples. Tragically, many in the ministry today are trying to build the church (taking Yeshua's role) while neglecting active disciple-making (our role). If we will focus on making disciples, He will build His Church!
Discipleship growth groups will begin a new season at King of Kings on October 13, 2010. At 6:00 PM (18:00) the women will meet on the 14th floor in the Prayer Tower, and the men will meet in the Media School (C1 level of the Clal building). After a time of refreshments and fellowship, we will have an introductory evening to the Sermon on the Mount, the discipleship material that Yeshua taught His disciples. If you are in Jerusalem, come join us!
