We have just launched a new series called “Back 2 Acts II” where we are focusing on building a compelling community and establishing greater degrees of discipleship. Our Sunday message is followed up midweek during Community Night and in our Home Groups with a hands-on, practical approach for participants to take out with them.
Recently we enjoyed a biblical style meal complete with first century style furnishings and food. A “head” table shaped like a triclinium (3-sided low table) was the focal point, with twelve “actors” taking part and enacting possible scenarios from believers’ lives in first century Jerusalem after the huge ingathering at the time of Pentecost. With dialogue, song, testimony and prayer, scripture came alive for all the guests as they ate their delicious lamb stew and listened/watched. Afterwards they were invited to reflect and discuss the various points that were brought through the scenarios and how it might be relevant to their lives today. This produced little groups of testimony, prayer and thanksgiving and a better opportunity to come to know one another, as well as foster a greater confidence in the Lord as people were edified and supported.
This series is generating some wonderful possibilities for believers to truly eat and digest the word and allow it to flow from their lives, as well as surfacing gifts and talents that enhance the body. As we continue to study Acts 2 we are believing for fruitful lives and “adding to our numbers daily those who are being saved.”
