Be Encouraged

Moses and Aaron brought together all the elders of the Israelites, and Aaron told them everything the LORD had said to Moses. He also performed the signs before the people, and they believed. And when they heard that the LORD was concerned about them and had seen their misery, they bowed down and worshiped. (Ex. 4:29-31)

Have you ever felt like God was against you? Have you ever wondered if God loved you? Have the heavens, at times, seemed as brass and your prayers appeared to have not made it through the ceiling?

Imagine being a slave in Egypt during the days prior to the Exodus. You have been told of your wonderful heritage—of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. You had heard the stories of how God strategically placed your prophetic fore-uncle Joseph in Egypt to save the world from famine. But where is this God? you wonder. Why has He not heard our groaning?

Forty years had come and gone since Moses fled Egypt. The Israelites were sure that God had forsaken them. And then, suddenly, the former Prince of Egypt returns and prophesies to you and your brethren, confirmed by miracles, that God does care, He has seen, He is concerned with your suffering.

When the Israelites “heard that the LORD was concerned about them and had seen their misery, they bowed down and worshiped.”

It is a great feeling when, in the midst of a great trial, you suddenly realize that God really does care for you. It is amazing when during a time when everything is screaming at you, “HE HAS FORGOTTEN YOU! YOU ARE NOT LOVED! HE HAS REJECTED YOU,” you are brought into the reality that he does care and is ready to act.

As I read this passage this morning I has a sense that many of you may be feeling right this minute that God doesn’t care; that He does not love you. I want to encourage you that He does. He will breakthrough in His time and His way—in a way that is best for you and His kingdom purposes. But today, don’t lose heart. Don’t believe the lie that He has forsaken you.

Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts (Ps. 95:7-8) For this is the trick of the enemy—maybe his greatest work of deception—to convince you of the one thing that God cannot do. God cannot break His word. He has stated that He loves you and will not forsake you.

Don’t you know beloved that the many encouragements in the word of God about God’s love and the fact that He will never leave you are there to strengthen you when you go through times where it feels like He has forsaken you. If it were always so evident, then we would not need the promises. The promises are there to encourage you when it looks like He has gone.

Joseph had many an opportunity to become bitter before he was brought forth from prison. David could have blamed the Lord for his troubles when King Saul was chasing him. I just visited a dear woman suffering from cancer. She confessed, naturally, that she was angry at the Lord. As I saw her suffering from constant pain and nausea, I couldn’t argue with her. It looks as if the Lord has forsaken her. But then she read from Isaiah, where Hezekiah is dying. The Lord has mercy on him, heals him and gives him 15 more years. Despite her confusion over what she was suffering, she was, with what little faith she had left, choosing to trust the Lord.

Most of us are not going through anything close to what she is and yet we are tempted to doubt His love—to doubt the reality of His grace and favor. So, in the midst of whatever you are going through today, take a moment and renew you confession before Yeshua. Tell Him that despite it all, you choose to continue to trust Him. Who knows what great thing for which He is preparing you? Be encouraged dear friends.
